About Us

Conscious Closet began after two friends decided to start shopping out of their own closets rather than at stores for one year, starting September 1, 2010.  This challenge may seem overwhelming to some, underwhelming to others but, to them, it feels like a manageable project in an effort to reduce their consumption and spending, creatively use what they already have and be truly conscious of what goes in and out of their closets for a year.

We have worked together since 2006 and have not stopped laughing since that fateful interview in which Allie wore an overly formal suit and Becky liked the way Allie’s full name appeared on her resume. Allie baked cupcakes for Becky’s wedding and Becky did something called “the moth” during Allie’s wedding ceremony to make her laugh (it was solicited beforehand “if needed”; Allie was crying before stepping foot on the aisle).  Allie once heard that a child laughs hundreds of times a day, whereas adults laugh, on average, 17 times. When together, we laugh on par with kids. Really. One time we counted.

In her free time, Becky likes to hang out with her son, watch Jeopardy and Mad Men with her husband,  peruse the local farmer’s market and chat with her friends and family who are scattered across the world. In her free time, Allie likes to cook, bake, shop at farmer’s markets, read, play with her nieces and nephews and watch Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with her husband.

Hilarious!!!! I love it. Keep up the good work. What a unique idea! I never buy new cloths – only thrift store items… Can’t tell ya how much I’ve saved! Also cut my own hair!
